United Way of the Virginia Peninsula serves Gloucester, Mathews and York counties, as well as the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson.
We work year-round in collaboration with other community stakeholders to identify community needs, find answers, fund solutions, and measure results.
CREDIBLE: We only fund programs from certified agencies carefully reviewed and chosen by community volunteers.
EFFICIENT: Our staff of just 10 people raises, monitors and distributes more money than any other organization on the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula.
EFFECTIVE: Programs funded by United Way are required to submit program outcomes that prove their impact.
People usually think of United Way as a fundraising organization—but that’s just part of what we do. Through 75 years of experience on the Peninsula we have learned that the best way to help the most people is to focus on the root causes of our community’s most critical issues. So we not only develop resources, we invest them in programs and services that address those issues through our community building and fund distribution efforts.
United Way brings people together from all over the community-government, business, faith groups, other non-profits, and citizens-to identify and tackle our most serious problems. We build partnerships with other funders, municipalities, and community organizations, as well, because it takes the whole community to make this work.
Most important--United Way gets results. United Way makes sure the programs we fund are getting the results our community needs. Through a system that measures and reviews program outcomes, United Way can benchmark progress and ensure our donors that their money is used efficiently and effectively.
